Nokia N95 is out
What a day. Just got in from watching Gnarls Barley, introduced by David Bowie, at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square.
Lots of fun.
The day started with the Nokia Press Conference.
I posted about it over here and here.
The Nokia Forum now has all the technical specs for the N95 posted.

Blogger Preview of the Nokia N95
This is Steve Garfield reporting from the Soho Grand Hotel where Nokia has gathered bloggers from around the world to preview the new Nokia N95, prior to it's public unveiling tomorrow in NYC at the 7th Regiment Armory.
I joined my fellow bloggers this morning in the lobby of the Soho Grand, where Nokia has put us up on their tab. Thanks Nokia. This hotel rocks. Literally! There's a Bose Music System in here and I'm listening to !!!, Tede Leo, TV on the Radio, The Occasion, French Kicks, Lansing-Dreiden and Ambulance LTD on the hotel's own compilation, GrandLife SohoNewYork on 5 Points Records [ Music plays ].
We took cabs over the the 7th Regimant Armory, signed in and then went upstairs where we met product managers from Nokia.
There was lots of activity going on to get ready for tomorrow's presentation and show floor.
We gathered together at a long table and the presentation began.
Out came the Nokia N95.
It's a lot slimmer than the N93 I've been testing and the camera is a 5 megapixel compared to the 3.2 of the N93. The phone supports GPS too. The user experience is much like that of Google earth. Sweet.
There was an application called podcasting and I asked about it. It's a media aggregator that will be able to subscribe to audio and video podcasts which you'll then be able to watch on the device. It's really a lot more than just a phone. It's a multimedia computer.
Here's a comparison shot with other Nokia phones.
That's Teo trying out the phone with the optional Bluetooth keyboard.
Here's Darla Mack and the Nokia N95. Darla took a bunch of photos too. Check her blog for her reports.
Rafe Blandford and the Nokia N95. Rafe took a lot of notes, check his blog for detailed product info.
We also got a look at the show floor as it was being assembled.
The phone is scheduled to come out in Europe first, and then possibly in the US depending, it seems, on market demand.
Nokia is smart. They sent us all N93's prior to this launch and then flew us into the city for this presentation. None of us were required to write or post about anything, but based on reading our blogs, they saw that we're all people who like to learn about new technology and share what we learn.
I'm impressed ny the Nokia poeple and their marketing represenatives. Everyone really knows the product and they are enthusiastic about it.

N93 Video Duration
Here are the durations of video, in minutes and seconds, that can be recorded with a Nokia N93, using the standard phone memory:
TV MODE:
30 fps 1:59
15 fps 3:56
HANDSET MODE:
30 fps 7:20
15 fps 13:46
This explains why my phone always stopped recording after about 2 minutes. You need to upgrade the miniSD card to 2 GB to get the advertised 90 minutes total record time, with 60 minutes at one shot.
I'd like to try one of those.
Next up, I'll try recording at some of these other settings. I've been using TV MODE 30 fps exclusively. That gives you 640 x 480 video.

N93 Video: From Radio Reporter to Vlogger
Andrea Shea was here today from WBUR interviewing me about videoblogging. I was showing her the Nokia N93 phone I've been testing and handed it over to her and had her shoot video of me. She liked it. A new videoblogger is born!
This video was recorded on my MacBook Pro with the internal iSight camera.

Orange Line
click to play
The Orange Line T stop at Community College was closed during PodCamp Boston. That was supposed to be one of the great features of the venue. Turns out that this happens a lot. I made this movie to show what it is like.

Jeff Pulver Keynote at VON (Excerpt)
I recorded a brief segment of Jeff Pulver's keynnote at VON on a Nokia N93 cell phone. This is what Jay Dedman calls a moment showing. It's a moment captured and shared. In this clip there's no ediitng. It's just an example of how you could use a cellphone and share a moment with the world. I grabbed the file via Bluetooth and uploaded it to Blip.tv.

Carol and Steve Show: Carol's Birthday Balloon Ride
I took Carol for a Balloon Ride over Boston Common on a Aeroballoon. The last day for rides this year is September 12th.
They gave us a free ride because last year Chris Prior from Aeroballon say my video online. I had the Nokia N93 camera I'm testing out on me, so I shot some more video. Nice shots from up high in a balloon.

Music Video Shot with Nokia N93
This music video for The Nice Boys was shot entirely with a Nokia N93 and edited in Final Cut Pro.
Video: The Carol and Steve Show: Wasted Days.
I like this song by them, Johnny Guitar.
Download "Johnny Guitar" (MP3, 192kbps)
It turns out that the lead singer, Terry Six, used to be in an old favorite band of mine, The Exploding Hearts.
On July 20th, 2003 the band, The Exploding Hearts, was in an automotive accident which claimed the lives of three other band members. It was really really sad.
While browsing through IODA PROMONET for a song to use on a new Carol and Steve show I came across The Nice Boys.
The Nice Boys are on Birdman Records.
Buy at iTunes Music Store
